Yosemite National Park
Indian Rock, North Dome, Yosemite Falls
June 25 - 28, 2015
A weekend to remember. Our fun group: Christina, Louis, Lynda, Erik, Anna, Carey, Coral and Mark met up Thursday afternoon at the backpackers camp in Yosemite Valley and set up camp for the night. After some confusion about getting pizza and beer, the Pack-it group ended up treating a whole bunch of guys at the backpackers campground to pizza and beer!!
Friday morning we packed up and caught the hikers bus to Porcupine Creek trailhead. Surprisingly, the bus was very comfortable with padded seats and power outlets. We began our hike at the Porcupine Creek trailhead and hiked to Indian Rock Ridge. What a stunning natural rock formation - a Yosemite must see. We explored the area and found a spacious campsite with a nice fire pit, just off the trail up on a mountain top. Christina ended up being the fabulous fire chief all weekend. After setting up camp, a hike to find water was on the agenda. Some of the group went searching and scored on water at the small Yosemite creek, not too far back on the trail. After returning with plenty of water, it was time for Happy Hour, a fire and the beginnings of "Your Top Three."
Saturday we packed up and continued on the Yosemite trail until we reached the turn off for spectacular North Dome. We dropped our packs and veered off the trail to climb to the top of North Dome. With a stunning view of the entire valley and Half Dome, we were all in awe at the magnificent scenery. After our visit with North Dome, we continued back on the Yosemite trail making our way to Yosemite Point and onto the top of Yosemite Creek Falls. We were all so ready to drop our packs, and we all ended up going into the soothing Yosemite Creek for washing up, filling up and laying out on the warm flat rocks that surrounded us at 6,526 feet. It was quiet, beautiful and the water was warm. After enjoying Yosemite Creek, we put our packs back on and crossed over the upper falls bridge in search of a campsite. Carey did some recon ahead of time and found an area to set up camp for the night. Louis went a little deeper off the trail, and we ended up with an incredible, perfect campsite just above the creek. There was plenty of room to spread out and a fantastic fire pit, that Christina once again fined tuned to perfection. We had a wonderful evening next to the fire, sampling food, revealing "Top Three's," sipping and indulging in Snicker bites, thank you Anna!!
Sunday morning we packed up and began the decent down Yosemite Falls. Step after step, we thought it would never end. Half way down, Anna and Carey scurried ahead and had beers on ice waiting for the rest of us upon arrival to Camp 4!! The afternoon was spent at the Fabulous Happy Burger Diner in Mariposa. Total Miles: About 17
