Anna and Coral decided on a spontaneous trip to Point Reyes National Seashore in hope of getting a walk up camping permit for Wildcat Beach. We got an early start from Sacramento stopping in San Marin to enjoy a mocha and latte. The curvy road into Olema was spectacular as always. Rolling hills, deep meadows and cows grazing - always a beautiful sight. We arrived at the Bear Valley Visitor Center to find a remodel in progress to include new bathrooms! Of course a walk up permit was available for Wildcat and the ranger was having a good morning and decided to give us Group Site 3 instead. We briefly met two women while listening to instructions from the ranger on backpacking and beach fire rules. We got on the trail about 10:40 am and were welcomed with blue sunny skies and calm weather. The hike in was peaceful, charming and full of beautiful scenery. This was Anna's first time on the Bear Valley Trail as we previously hiked in from the Palomarin Trail. We arrived at Wildcat and quickly set up our tents and headed to the beach for some sand and sea air. We prepared a fire ring and set up some wood for an evening fire. After some rest, we headed back to our campsite and enjoyed some appetizers and wine, thank you Anna! Next thing we knew the sun was setting so we scurried back to the beach to start our fire. As we were enjoying the warmth, the two women we previously met at the visitor center walked by and we welcomed them to join us. Elaina and Meriweather, originally from Vermont and Marin were sporting Mountain Bindis, so cool. We all sat around the fire talking, laughing and enjoying the company. We eventually walked back to camp under a bright moon and many stars. We had hot soup and mashed potatoes for dinner and enjoyed a game of Catch Phrase! Nothing like getting in a tent and enjoying the quietness of camping. Our morning was spent at the "Cliff Coffee Cafe," a spot we selected in April for morning coffee while enjoying the ocean scenery. We took our time packing up and heading out. We saw a bobcat walk out of the meadow and cross our trail. The weather was perfect and I might add, it was another 5 star adventure at Wildcat. On the way home we stopped at the cheese factory and purchased some cheese and crackers for the way home. Total miles 12.8
