Wildcat Beach March 14 - 16, 2014
Amazingly beautiful sights of deep green foliage on our journey to Wildcat Beach! Starting the year off a little late, it was time to Pack-It and get out. Annette and Coral began their hike from Bear Valley Trail to Wildcat Beach with sunny blue skies. While eating our Subway sandwiches on the trail, we took a detour and ended up with a 12.4 mile hike into campsite #5. During our trek, we came across two women traveling with three horses. The third horse had an empty saddle on its back. Coral’s first thought was to ask for a ride and turned to Annette - “want to?” Annette didn’t like the idea and had to rally Coral to keep going. We enjoyed deep green foliage, Forget-me-not flowers and an abundance of Mustard Plant. Wildcat camp was full of 3 feet high Mustard Plant - very cool. We set up camp and Annette quickly went for the wine. We were both wiped out from our journey in. We were so grateful day light savings had past, as the sun stayed with us until about 7:50 pm. Once the full moon set up over the mountain, Wildcat was well lit and it was a spectacular sight. Saturday morning was enjoyed with hot coffee, while sitting on the cliff waiting for the sun to peek over the mountain. Being Annette’s first time at Wildcat, we decided on a morning day hike around Ocean Lake Loop, which presents great ocean views and scenery. Lunch was spent on the beach enjoying the warm sun, reading, exploring and collecting sea treasures. We walked along the beach to Alamere Falls, which was quite full due to the recent rains.
What sounds good, smells good, looks good and feels good? A Beach Campfire at Wildcat. Coral's favorite and a must. We enjoyed a great fire on Saturday night after watching the sunset. Sunday morning we packed up and headed up that long Stewart Road. As always, Wildcat Beach was a success, very enjoyable and dare I say.... a 5 star excursion. Beer (a must have for Annette), big burgers and fries were enjoyed at the Farm House Restaurant in Olema.
Total Miles Trekked: 23.4
