The Blood Moon Eclipse of October 2014 at Wildcat Beach
Annette, Caity and Coral packed into Wildcat Beach to view the wonders of the Blood Moon Eclipse. This was Caity's first backpack trip - welcome to the backpacking life Caity! Our trek into Wildcat was beautiful, as always, and the weather was warm and sunny. After setting up our tents next to one another, we headed to the beach for a quick peak at the ocean. The afternoon was spent playing Phase 10 and enjoying appetizers and wine. A beautiful sight was watching the full moon come up over the mountain ridge and light the entire campground. Our alarms were set for 3:00 am. Coral had too much anticipation and was up at 2:30 am. At 3:00, Annette quietly said, "Are you already up?" Of course she was. The Eclipse had began. Annette and Caity peaked their heads out of their tents to watch and view as the bright round moon slowly changed into a burgundy red. We all went back to sleep and were awaken at 5:30 am by the hungry coyotes, barking and screeching. We made it back to sleep and didn't wake up until 8:30 am! The day was spend hanging at the beach, exploring and walking to Alamere Falls. We finished up our Phase 10 game and Coral won by only 5 points. We grabbed some wine and headed down to the beach for a fire. We enjoyed a nice long fire, visiting with new friends. The next morning we packed up at headed out. We enjoyed cheese burgers and fries at the Olema Farm House. Caity did fantastic on our trip and we think she is hooked. Total miles: 16.8
