January Jump Start
Point Reyes National Seashore
***** Wildcat *****
January 26 - 28, 2018
A trip to remember... Christina, Anna and Coral headed out on the trail to Wildcat Camp in Point Reyes. Coral's pack weighed in at 35 pounds and it was evident Christina and Anna's packs were 40+ pounds! It was a beautiful day and the 6.5 mile hike in seemed to go quickly. Once we arrived at spacious site #3, we no longer had our packs off and Anna was handing out shots of tequila for each of us. We did a nice toast to our arrival. Coral bent down to open the food storage locker and whoa... a large nest of mice were inside. The baby mice scurried as Coral quickly slammed the door shut, screamed and ran! Oh my... a little mice family trying to stay safe and
warm. We decided to let them be and use the other storage locker. Luckily site #3 had two lockers. After we set up our tents, we went to the beach to gather wood for our evening fire. The beach was scattered with wood and we gathered a huge pile and made our fire pit. We headed back to camp to begin happy hour. We sat at "Cliff Cafe" - a must for every meal, and drank wine and enjoyed nuts, salami, cheese and cutie oranges. Oh yeah, and Christina cut up some fresh limes to go with another shot of tequila. As we were in the moment at Cliff Cafe, two whales spouted up to say hello. Incredible. We decided to head back down the beach to make our "Packit" sign by shuffling our feet in the sand. Nice visible sign from Cliff Cafe. That evening we enjoyed our dinner by the fire and took in the beauty of the sunset, stars and calm air. We enjoyed an all American breakfast Saturday morning with fresh eggs from Anna's chickens and sausage! We spend the day relaxing, playing cards, walking the beach, collecting beach treasures and gathering more wood. There was so much wood, we decided to enjoy happy hour and dinner with a beach fire that lasted four hours! Anna and Christina decided to take a refreshing plunge into the ocean! Crazy girls.
Again, we saw whales passing by under the sunny skies. Sunday we slowly packed up and headed back out on the trail. Happy to know our packs were lighter. We drove to Nick's Cove as we were ready for cheeseburgers and french fries. As we were waiting for our table, Anna rushed out of the bathroom to proclaim she had a tick in her butt check! Coral grabbed tweezers from our first aid kit and worked with Anna to remove the tick as she worried Coral would see her entire butt. Coral felt like she was performing surgery and could care less about her naked butt. :) After the surgery, Anna and Coral headed to our table where Christina was waiting with three shots of tequila! Greatly needed!! We laughed and worried that Coral left a tick's leg in Anna's butt. Yep, another round of tequila please. Delicious burgers and a beer to go with it. We then wondered out to the shack on the pier and enjoyed a little fire from the wood stove. Definitely took our time before heading back to the city life. A fabulous trip with awesome women. Total miles hiked: 13
