Pleasant Camp - July 14 - 15, 2017
LOON LAKE / EL DORADO NATIONAL FOREST
WHAT AN ADVENTURE....
PLAN A: Anna, Coral and Jethro had a plan to backpack to Bunker Lake in El Dorado National Forest. We drove up Ice House Road turning off on a dirt road, which was going to be about 7 more miles. As we were cruising along, a big bear ran across the road about 100 yards in front of us. OMG! Soon thereafter the dirt road narrowed and we had to stop. Half of the road was lost due to the winter snow and there was no way we could keep going. Large ditches were on each side of the road. We put the truck in reverse and drove backyard until we could find a spot to turn around.
PLAN B: Loon Lake Campground or packit into Pleasant Camp. When we arrived at the campground, it was pretty full and Pleasant Camp sounded much more peaceful, plus we got to hike! So we hit the trail and hiked the 4.7 miles to Pleasant Camp. Jethro did such a good job of leading the way, finding the trail and letting us know if guests were coming our way! Loon Lake was very full and beautiful. We had the perfect campsite on the lake. After setting up camp, we both jumped in and enjoyed the fresh cool water. For dinner, we barbecued rib eye steaks on the campfire with corn on the cob and good red wine. :) After dinner we took another dip in the lake, which was about 8:30 pm! S'mores for dessert (thanks to Anna) and played rummy until the beautiful stars came out. No mosquitos!! The next day we hung out of the large rocks, took naps, swam and explored. So relaxing. By afternoon, we packed it up and headed back out on the trail. The best 36 hours!
