PLEASANT CAMP
El Dorado National Forest
September 5 - 7, 2014
This trip included the adventures of backpacking along with the convenience of camping! Anna, Carey, Coral and Mark met at the Loon Lake boat dock. It was decided that Mark would bring his boat to transport Anna across Loon Lake due to a recent injury. After meeting at the Loon Lake boat dock, we loaded Mark’s boat with ice chests, chairs and a barbecue! Mark and Anna took off in the boat headed to Pleasant Camp, while Coral and Carey drove over to the trailhead and began the backpack journey along the Loon Lake Trail. It was a great hike with some granite peeks to admire and a few hills to climb. After about 4.5 miles, we landed at Pleasant Camp. Mark and Anna had camp set up, which was right on Pleasant Lake. Once separated by land, Loon Lake and Pleasant Lake now join together.
Next, we welcomed our friends Lynda and Erik. Mark picked them up Friday night at the boat dock and transported them to our campsite before dark. We enjoyed good ol’ barbecue hotdogs and beans for dinner. The grand idea was to place the ice chests in the boat and anchor it off shore. Worked like magic. No bear issues!!
Saturday morning Carey made us all scrambled eggs and bacon! After enjoying coffee and the calm, peaceful and untroubled lake, we all picked our day activities. Anna enjoyed the lakeside while Mark and Carey headed off to fish. Lynda, Erik and Coral hiked to Spider Lake and took delight in the spectacular views. The afternoon was spent lakeside swimming and enjoying appetizers, good wine and good company.
Saturday night’s dinner was full on ribeye steaks, corn on the cob, salad and rice. Oh yeah, and more good wine. Since the boat taxi was hauling Anna, we all threw in some “bottle” wine and left the box wine at home! The evening was spent paying Phase 10 under the beautiful moon.
Sunday morning we took our time packing up. Mark and Anna once again traveled by boat, while Lynda, Erik, Coral and Carey backpacked back along the lake. We all stopped at Ice House bar for cheeseburgers and fries! Fantastic!!
All and all we climbed a few Hills, felt a little Winje, and Thrashed in the boat!
