LAKE TAHOE ~ RUBICON TRAIL
January 17, 2015
Miles Traveled: 1 1.49 / Elevation Gain: 1473"
Annette and Coral began the hike from the Vikingholm parking lot. We quickly made our way down the paved road to the historic Vikingholm "castle" and onto the Rubicon Trail heading along the north shore of Emerald Bay. The trail passes close to Emerald Point giving an awesome view of Emerald Bay and across Lake Tahoe. The trail climbs some as it heads over a small ridge then continues along the shoreline of Lake Tahoe about 100 feet above the lake. We crossed adorable bridges, icy waterfalls and traveled through incredible rock formations along the trail. The weather was perfect as the sun peeked often through the scattered clouds. We arrived at D.L. Bliss State Park and enjoyed sandwiches while sitting on a rock overlooking the beautiful lake. After lunch we began our hike back on the Rubicon Trail towards Emerald Bay. By the time we reached the bottom of the Vikingholm paved trail, we knew we only had a mile uphill hike to the Vikingholm parking lot. We both were ready to call it a day! We enjoyed a homemade burrito bar, drank wine and enjoyed the comforts of the Sunnyview Lodge. Thank you Annette!
