Experience some of the most spectacular scenery in the Western United States.
Mark, Dawn, Annette and Coral packed up their cars and drove 446 miles to Lamoille Canyon, Nevada to explore the Ruby Mountains. Our first night was spent at the Thomas Canyon Campground at 7200'. After an early rise, we stuffed our backpacks and headed to the nearby trailhead of the Ruby Crest Trail. The journey to Liberty Lake begins here. With an elevation gain of about 1934', we climb and climb amongst glorious wild flowers, several lakes, wooden bridges, dirt, rock and incredible views. We made it to Liberty Lake at 10,039' about 10:30 am. We spent two nights on this beautiful lake with day hikes to Favre and a no name lake, which we found on top of a mountain. Mark fished the entire lake and nailed about 16 brook trout. We swam in the ice cold lake, ok, we didn't swim, but dove in a few times to freshen up, basked in an incredible sunset, enjoyed campfires, the moon, reflections of the mountain on the water, good food, happy hours, and loads of laughs about burying Dawn's chicken and grandma's duck taped Teva's. There is a whole world out there. Pack your backpack, grab your friends and go!.
