Tahoe Rim Trail
Round Lake ~ Tahoe Rim Trail
August 24 - 26
Another fantastic backpacking weekend to a new destination! Stacie and Coral got an early start after grabbing a Starbucks in Placerville. We began our 3.25 hike on the Big Meadow Trailhead with our packs each weighing about 34 pounds. The trail started out with a gradual climb before reaching beautiful Big Meadow. Onward in search of Round Lake! We found a great campsite nestled in some rocks and trees overlooking the lake and quickly set up "home." We spent some time at the lake eating lunch and pumping fresh water for our happy hour beverages. After dinner we played rummy and awed at the brightness of the full moon. So lucky to camp out during a glorious full moon. On Saturday, we walked all the way around Round Lake, which was about 2 miles. We climbed over large rocks and scurried through some brush before finding a lunch spot on the other side of the lake. After arriving back at our campsite, we agreed that we had the best site on the lake! More lake time and rummy as Coral began to take the lead. Some resting time in Stacie's awesome hammock before another happy hour. Laughter and jokes accumulated as Coral became Ranger Rita reminding campers of the fire restriction. More rummy under the stars and the lead is maintained. :) Sunday morning was simply beautiful with the cool air and the sun shimmering on the lake. After our hot coffee and breakfast, we began tearing down camp. The hike out was much faster as we descended down the mountain. We aenjoyed a nice lunch at Kirkwood Inn! Great Getaway!!
