Genevieve Lake / Rubicon Lake
Desolation Wilderness, May 25, 2014
Marty, Mark, Mike, Annette and Coral began our day hike at the Meeks Bay trailhead after getting plenty of rest at the Holbus' Sunnyview Lodge. No backpacks for this trip! The first mile or so was along a wide dirt road and passes along the meadow and marshland of Meeks Creek. A trail marker for Desolation Wilderness signals the beginning of the actual trail and it begins to climb steadily for the next 3.5 miles. The trees along this stretch of trail are large and healthy and include Douglas Fir, Red Fir, many types of pines, and, we think Sequoias! We crossed a bridge over Meeks Creek as we got close to Lake Genevieve, a fine alpine lake surrounded by rocky mountains and located at about 7400'. We stopped for some snacks at Lake Genevieve before Mike and Annette decided to continue their journey on to Rubicon Lake, another 3.36 miles.
Total miles: 8.78 to Lake Genevieve / 15.5 miles to Rubicon Lake.
