COAST CAMP, April 12 - 14, 2013
Our group: Stacie, Mark, Coral, Angela, John and Tony. We began our trek to Coast Camp from the Point Reyes Hostel. We traveled approximately 2.8 easy miles along the Coast Trail before arriving at our grassy group site 13. We all got busy setting up our tents - Tony didn't think he needed to stake down his.... hmm.... After setting up camp, we hiked along Sculptured Beach and did some exploring. There were tide-pools, hundreds of muscles and mounds of rock. The afternoon was spent sipping beer and wine, enjoying once again the blue cheese and salami appetizers. Angela got best wine glass award for her stainless steel goblet! We played cards and checked out all of John's fancy backpacking gadgets. The sun was bright, but we were met with a breeze. At least it wasn't cold! As the sun began to fall, we enjoyed the beauty of the sunset while sitting on a large tree on top of the hill. On Saturday we took a nice hike above Sculptured Beach, to the top of the rocks and enjoyed the incredible views. We were followed by a few Mule Deer. We enjoyed lunch on the beach as Tony sat his butt down on a log covered in black sap, thus the nickname "Tarbutt" was his. As we headed back to camp we realized it was time again for happy hour. So enjoyable. The men fussed with Tony's tent as the wind thought it was a kite. Speaking of kites, Stacie brought a kite, placed it in the air and away she flew. So fun!! The breeze picked up as the sun fell and a chill was filling the air. As the night grew dark, Coral decided to check out Stacie's new one-man tent, quietly. When Stacie decided it was time for bed, surprise.... she had a visitor hiding in her tent! Scared her!! Ha!! We had a good laugh. We all slept in before packing up and hiking back to the Hostel via the Laguna trail. We enjoyed a nice lunch at the Marin Brewing Company before heading home. Trek totals: Easy 4.7 miles (not counting our day hikes)!
